Summer: Krayon Kids Handwriting Camp

Krayon Kids Handwriting Camp utilizes the Handwriting Without Tears® curriculum developed by Jan Z. Olsen, OTR and Emily F. Knapton, OTR/L. The curriculum focuses on introducing the alphabet in a developmentally-appropriate sequence using hands-on and multi-sensory resources. Krayon Kids is designed for preschool and kindergarten-aged children and will utilize the Get Set for School workbook. Camp content will focus on developing skills such as pre-writing strokes and shapes with an introduction to capital letters and numbers in order to prepare your child’s little fingers for kindergarten handwriting. KCC occupational therapist Chris Purgatori, M.S., OTRL, and two assistant counselors will facilitate camp.

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1:30-3:30 p.m. - 8 weeks, June 28 through August 18

Designed for children:

  • Preschool and kindergarten age (3-6 years)
  • Who are able to participate and follow simple directions in a group setting
  • Who experience fine motor difficulties in relation to drawing, coloring, and holding crayons or writing utensils appropriately

Daily schedule includes:

  • Structured group station with themed activities
  • Rotating mini groups for letter instruction
  • 1:2 therapist-to-child ratio, table-top guided instruction
  • Letter instruction via group activity conducted by assistant counselor
  • Snack: Fine motor creations
  • Group letter practice
  • Workbook practice
  • Group closing activity
  • Distribution/discussion of home activities

Cost: $1,440

Camp tuition includes tools and supplies required for at-home carry over and practice of the handwriting activities learned in camp. Each child will receive:

  • Get Set for School workbook
  • Flip crayons
  • Tote bag decorated by your child
  • Folder with at-home handouts and practice sheets
  • Wood pieces
  • Play-Doh
  • “Wet, Dry, Try” mini slate and chalk

Pre-registration is required. Each child must complete a screening session with Chris Purgatori, M.S., OTRL to determine eligibility for the program.
