HomeRun In-Home ABA Program

HomeRun is an in-home applied behavior analysis program (ABA) using the functional units of language as defined by B.F. Skinner and the research of ABA and applied verbal behavior (AVB). Homerun aims to effectively teach functional communication to young children who are experiencing an autistic spectrum disorder or other developmental challenges.

The HomeRun program begins with the family hiring an in-home teacher. The KCC may be able to recommend available teachers. The family and teachers are supported by the KCC staff in the following ways.

Initial meeting – The meeting is about an hour in length at the KCC and does not include the child. The HomeRun director will go over the details of the program, provide instruction in completing assessment paperwork, and answer any questions..

Observation – The child is observed at home, school or during an occupational therapy and/or speech therapy session at the KCC. This helps the staff understand your child’s areas of strengths, challenges and current preferences.

Training – The final step in preparation for the in-home program is the completion of training for parents, family members and the staff that you have hired to work with your child in the home. Instruction is completed over six hours at the KCC without the child present.

Follow-Up Visit – Within a week of training, a follow-up visit is held with your child and in-home teaching staff. The visit lasts approximately two hours and will include assessment of the teaching setting, observation of your staff’s teaching procedures, modeling of teaching procedures, answering of questions and/or concerns, selection of goals for the following month and organization of data.

Monthly Visits - Continuation and maintenance of your home program will require monthly visits in order to provide feedback, ongoing training, guidance regarding the direction of goals, and ensuring that progress is being made toward your child’s established goals. Follow-up visits generally occur in the home so that your child can be observed in the natural teaching/learning environment.
