HomeRun Applied Verbal Behavior Program
This is an in-home applied verbal behavior (AVB) program using the functional units of language as defined by B.F. Skinner and the research of applied behavior analysis (ABA) to effectively teach young children functional communication who are experiencing an autistic spectrum disorder or other developmental challenges.
This program features:
► A speech and language evaluation which includes one hour with your child, a one hour parent conference and a follow-up written report.
► Follow-up evaluation and/or parent interview when necessary to establish program goals for your child which will be based on functional communication, speech and language developmental milestones, the Kaufman Speech Praxis Treatment approach, and the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS)
► A community resources list which may assist each family in locating their own child’s team of tutors for their twenty to forty hour a week home program.
► Six hours of pre-program training in three hour increments for your child’s team of tutors. This training can be waived, following attendance at Dr. Vincent Carbone’s conference: Introduction to Verbal Behavior. Introductory information, based on your child’s assessment, will include:
- Creating a willing learner
- The principles of Applied Behavior Analysis
- Effective teaching methods
- The functional units of language, or verbal operants, as defined by B.F. Skinner
- Initial program goals
- Data keeping
► Establishing a home program for your child with ongoing training and consultations in to your home or at our center for your child’s tutors, on a weekly, biweekly, and/or monthly basis.
► Center-based integrated opportunities for your child, yourself, and your tutors at the Kaufman Children’s Center are also available:
- Language groups.
- Consulting/training parents and/or tutors while they work with the child.
- Occupational therapy appointments which can include fine motor, sensory integration, therapeutic listening and oral motor interventions.
