We are proud to share this parent letter, written to Jessica Hunt, our director of occupational therapy and sensory integration programs. We are so thankful for the families who trust the KCC to bring out the very best in their children, and are beyond thrilled to hear when we’ve made a profound difference in their lives.

Dear Jessica,

Today we are celebrating Chase’s second birthday and it feels appropriate to stop and honor you and all that you’ve done for him. It’s been three months since Chase graduated from his therapy with you. The changes you’ve created within him have been transformative in our lives and in his.

While I’ve never received professional OT training, it became apparent to me upon our first evaluation that your knowledge of my son far exceeded that of those who have spent months working with him. I thought I was receiving the best OT available, having spent ample time at both private clinics and the best children’s hospitals in the country. I did not know the true capabilities of what OT could do for my son until I met you. I held tightly onto every suggestion you offered and seriously implemented those into our daily routine. We still craft our days based on what “Jessica” would want us to do. Even my choice of toys for Chase to play with has been completely changed since we met you. You have had the single greatest influence on my parenting decisions of anyone I know.

Last night, I was writing Chase his birthday letter, a summary of his past year and sentiments to be shared with him when he is older. I told him all about his angel, Jessica, whom he may never remember but because of her will forever be changed. Chase and I spent every day of his life, since 9 months old, in therapy with OTs who clearly did not master their field. You have taken your role as an OT and elevated it to a new level.  The bar is now set higher for any person who ever wants to work with my child again. As you know, Chase has had a complicated young life, and we have many specialists that we have to follow up with. There are several physicians that saw him just before we started at KCC and then followed up with earlier this year. They were astonished at the developments and progress he had made, one specific physician even admitted that he never believed Chase would able to overcome the challenges that he had to face. I explained to him the amazing services of KCC and I know he has now personally referred several patients to you.

Today, you are in our prayers of thanks. I do not know where we would be if my son had stayed in the care of the other OTs that have attempted to treat him over the past two years. We are so thankful for everything you’ve done for Chase and our family. Please feel free to share this letter with any prospective parents of the KCC. I am proud to explain to anyone who’s interested that my son was made whole again because of you.
