Expressive Language Disorder |
Early Signs & Symptoms
There are many different ways in which expressive language disorder can manifest itself. Children with this disorder may have one or more of the following indicators:
- Improper use of pronouns;
- Leave out function words such as "is" or "the";
- Cannot recall words that they want to use in the sentence and substitute general words such as "thing" or "stuff";
- May misname objects (such as saying “towel” for “sheet”) or describe them instead of using the desired vocabulary word;
- Cannot organize their sentences so that the sentences are easy to understand.
