The KCC Expands into new "K2" ABA Building

The KCC is literally bursting with successful outcomes – so much so that we have expanded!  The center added a second building (just across the parking lot from the current facility), in March, a few months after celebrating our 25th year helping "children with challenges become champions."

“Parents have asked us for years to open a second facility but we were concerned about maintaining the quality of our programs and our professional integrity,” said Nancy R. Kaufman, a speech-language therapist and the owner/director of the Kaufman Children’s Center. “This is such a timely opportunity to be able to expand our programs right next door.”

The new building, referred to as “K2,” will primarily be used to grow the KCC’s applied behavior analysis (ABA) program for children with autism spectrum disorder, which regularly has a very long wait list.

“Families have been willing to wait a year or more because of our reputation for helping many kids with autism find their voices and start talking for the first time,” said Kerry Peterson, director of autism programs.

The KCC was one of the first special-needs clinics to offer ABA services and the program has grown exponentially in the years since.

Our new building features dedicated speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists, teaming with the board-certified behavior analysts who supervise the children’s individual cases.

The BCBAs have low caseloads, allowing them to be in daily contact with the children they treat. “We are committed to continuing to provide world-class ABA treatment in Michigan,” said Peterson.

Nancy Kaufman started the KCC back in 1992, providing speech-language therapy on her own with only an answering machine serving as her office staff. In the 25 years since, the KCC has blossomed to a full-service pediatric special-needs clinic, offering dozens of therapeutic options, over 50 staff members, and now two buildings.
